Chef of the Year in South Africa
South Africa has many renowned chefs and there are a variety of accolades awarded every year. The Unilever Chef of the Year is one of South Africa’s oldest culinary competitions, which focuses on rewarding the top culinary talent in South Africa. In 2018 the Senior Chef of the Year was Juan Neethling from the Southern Sun Waterfront in Cape Town. The Junior Chef of the Year was awarded to Josh Utah Green from 1000 Hills Chef School in Durban.
Chef of The Year in Australia
Australia hosts a Chef of The Year competition every year where chefs compete in live cooking finals in Sydney. In 2018, the winner was first-time entrant Jack Lee from Melbourne who was named Chef of The Year 2018. The Australian Professional Chef of The Year competition is extremely prestigious with a prize pool of $10 000.
Chef of the year in New Zealand
New Zealand holds Cuisine Good Food Awards every year to honour New Zealand’s top restaurants and chefs. 2018’s Chef of the Year was awarded to Guilio Sturla from Roots Restaurant where the main emphasis is on the quality of the ingredients.
Chef of The Year in the UK
The UK’s most prestigious culinary competition is the National Chef of the year, which was launched in 1972. Previous winners included Gordon Ramsay and Mark Sargeant. Only the most innovative chefs are awarded this title and it opens the door to success in the culinary field.
Chef of the year in the USA
USA’s Chef of the Year award is declared by the American Culinary Association. The award was created in 1963 to promote and elevate the culinary profession. The 2018 Chef of the Year is Todd Leonard.
Chef of the year in Canada
The Canadian Culinary Federation holds its own Chef of the Year competition where the top chef is voted in by colleagues in the industry. 2018’s winner went to Irwin MacKinnon when the annual conference took place in Charlottetown in June 2018. Another Chef of the Year is awarded at the Canadian Culinary Championships and the 2018 winner is Chef Alex Chen.
